Paper Knife

Item Number

Beautifully designed with silver handle and ivory blade.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1896 and made by Henry Williamson.
During the Victorian era paper was an expensive commodity, a piece would be cut so there was no waste - not like today! Also Victorian books needed to have some edges of pages slit where the trim was not quite accurate.
These paper knives are often confused with page turners, but a recent article by Ian Spellerberg would suggest that the page turner was a complete myth!
There are no Victorian advertisements or references for page turners - very interesting indeed.
Approx overall length 245mm x 26mm wide (across blade).

UK Postage included (Guaranteed Next Day before 1pm). Please see 'Delivery' page for Terms & Conditions and Postal / Compensation Options.
